    AirFlex Type VC

Airflex VC element assemblies are designed and built for severe clutching and braking applications on heavy duty equipment. They are unmatched for high starting loads and sustained slippage where heat generated tends to lower efficiency and shorten the operating life of conventional clutches.

    Their high torque ratings permit use of smaller diameter units which lower contact velocity on high speed applications. Ventilated construction permits passage of cooling air, to rapidly dissipate heat from the friction shoes. Torque is transmitted from the side plates of the elements through torque bars to the friction shoes.

    • The Type VC is specifically designed and built for severe clutch or brake applications in which large inertia loads and sustained slippage would normally result in loss of torque and reduced operating life.

The EB is similar in design to the CB except that it is an expanding type unit. The primary function of the EB design and construction is the Airflex torsional resilient principal made possbile by the transmission of power through the side walls of the flexible neoprene and cord actuating tube. This flexibilty also permits minor shaft misalignment.

    • EB elements are suited for slow speed applications having moderate starting and stopping loads.

  • AirFlex Type WCB

    AirFlex Type WCB

    Airflex WCB2 and WCBD elements are disc type, externally cooled units. They are designed to absorb and dissipate the thermal loads associated with the most severe clutch and brake applications. The WCB2 and WCBD’s friction couple was developed specifically for continuous slip service and has a dynamic coefficient of friction that is greater than its static coefficient of friction. Special high coefficient linings are also available which provide 50% higher torque than standard friction linings and provide 1:1 dynamic to static torque ratio.

    • The WCB2 element features a specially formulated friction material, interfacing with a copper alloy surface, which eliminates the stick-slip characteristic associated with ordinary frictional devices.
    • The WCB2 elements work equally well with open or closed loop circulating systems. On mobile equipment, the engine’s cooling system can be tapped to provide coolant to the element.
    • In addition to the features of WCB2, the WCBD element has a unique dual piston design for improved controllability.

    AirFlex Type E

Airflex E elements are primarily used as slip clutches or tension brakes; however, they can also be used for general power transmission service. Torque is transmitted from the friction shoes to the element housing through torque bars. Engagement occurs when air expands the actuating tube forcing the friction shoes against the inside diameter of the drum. Release springs assist shoe disengagement and counteracts centrifugal force.
    • E elements are ideal for moderate to heavy duty clutch and brake service.
    • E elements are suited for medium speed cyclic applications which are subject to large thermal loads.
    • When used with an air agitating ventilated drum, the E element provides excellent slip clutch and tension brake service.
